We understand that new families coming to Escuela Americana have many questions. To help with the transition, we compiled a list of the most frequently asked questions new families have had in previous years.
When does the school year start? When does it end?
Our school year usually starts the second week of August and ends the second week of June. There is a three-week holiday break in December.
How long is the school day?
The school day starts at 7:45 a.m. and ends at 3:00 p.m. PK is the only grade level that comes half of the day; they leave at 12:15 p.m.
What are the uniforms like?
There are two types of uniforms, PE and formal:
Where can I get the school supplies?
School supplies are sold in the Trojan Store on campus. Prices are competitive and supplies are available in grade level complete packages.
What does the school do to help new students adapt more easily to their new school?
As part of our Families in Transition program, we host different activities for both new students and their families to help them adapt in an easier way to their new school. We host pizza luncheons, do follow up meetings with their respective counselors who monitor closely both their academic and emotional progress.
My child does not speak Spanish, is this a problem?
At all grade levels, except PK and Kinder, we have an SSL (Spanish as a Second Language) class available for those students who do not speak Spanish or have very limited knowledge of the language. Our goal is to mainstream them into a regular Spanish class.
Are there any after-school activities?
Yes! As part of our commitment to developing the Whole Child, we offer a wide variety of recreational activities that take place on campus. Our After School Program seeks to offer students various experiences so they may develop new skills, reach their unique potential and most importantly, have fun!

Can my child purchase lunch in school?
Yes, your child may either purchase lunch at the cafeteria or bring lunch from home. If the student chooses to purchase lunch, he/she may do so with their student ID. The student’s ID is $ 4.00 which you may purchase at the Cashier. Parents deposit money directly into their child’s account (the number that appears in your child’s ID card).
Does the school have handicap access?
Yes, the school has ramps through the buildings and an elevator in the middle school and art center building.
How can we be assured of the highest educational standards?
We are affiliated with the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS) and are accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (AdvancedED) and by the local Ministry of Education in El Salvador.
